Youth Development

Awhi Leadership Training:

We now have 30 young adults that have come up through the youth church, and are discipling and mentoring and supporting their younger peers. We get together every Tuesday night for dinner at the youth pastor’s house to learn/pray and plan the way ahead. Then we put it into practice with our Tuesday night – Awhi groups.

Worship Development Teams:

A couple of capable leaders train up young people to be worshippers and to lead the youth church in worship. This Worship leading is not just about musical giftedness, but about having a heart after God. There are presently about 20 young people onboard – they catch-up fortnightly for training/prayer and accountability.

Preaching/teaching/sharing:

We are keen to use our times of coming together to mobilize our young people into actualizing the things God has for them to do so that is why we train and then create space for our HBY’s who want to, to begin teaching and preaching and sharing their faith. It may be through sharing a testimony at youth church on a Sunday night, or starting to MC at Awhi on a Tuesday night, or preparing a Bible Study with their peers – we find that high risk means high impact, so we want to create as much opportunity as we can to let our youth shape our church.

Prayer:

A team of our young adults started their own prayer ministry on a Wednesday night – growing in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, they have seen tremendous answers to prayer. Their heart also is for us in HBY not to be an island but instead to be a vital part of HBC – so they join and help lead the church’s monthly Holy Spirit prayer meeting.

Bible Study:

Being grounded in the Word is vital and sometimes Sunday night’s sermon’s and weekly Bible studies just don’t take us deep enough into the Word so we periodically run weekly Bible studies with Pastor Craig before Tuesday night Awhi.

Ways to outwork your faith, here and overseas:

We have found that it is not enough to just talk the talk. At HBC there are a myriad of ways to walk out your faith - whether it is through getting alongside a child in need in our local community through mentoring or saving up and going on one of our short-term missions trips - there is heaps for you to do - call Craig or Nadine at the church and have a chat.
