To Reach Out

The scriptures are laced with commands to care for the poor and Jesus himself said that he came to bring good news to the poor (Luke 4:18). We cannot ignore the plight of the poor and call ourselves followers of Jesus. Many of our ministries at HBC are expressions of love and concern for those who have a need:

Christian Love Link

Hillsborough Baptist is a “Christian Love Link” church. Christian Love Link brings caring people together from local churches to enable them to meet real needs in their community, in practical ways. Accordingly food is collected from HBC every week and distributed to help support local families that are struggling.

How you could help:

Regular food dropped off into the basket in the foyer; if you have furniture you can donate or if you are available to provide transport for people who are incapacitated, or if you are able to help deliver food parcels and visit families in need in our local area, contact Christian Love Link on 624 3040.

Fresh Perspective Family Mentoring:

This program trains men and women from the church to mentor (same sex) parents or guardians in our community, in need of support. Many of these mentoring relationships have developed into lasting friendships between families. For more information go to www.freshperspective.org.nz.

How you could help:

Become a mentor or offer your assistance to a FP mentor already supporting a local family. Contact Nadine Allan (HBC community worker) for further information. Prison Ministry

Our Prison Ministry Team

Visits prisons weekly on a Sunday, running regular worship services and supporting rehabilitation services. The teams also provide support for people when they are released from prison and first move back into the wider community.

How you could help:

If you are interested in becoming part of a prison ministry team or assisting/supporting people in the process of integration and rehabilitation, contact Ravi Musuku (Auckland Prison Ministry director) on email ravi@hillsbc.org.nz and/or go to the Prison Ministry website.

Hospital Ministry:

We have a ministry team that prepares and runs a worship service in our local Hillsborough Hospital. The service provides a rich opportunity to meet with and provide love and light, to the aged and infirmed in our community.

How you could help:

If you would like to become part of this team or give of your talents (ie musical, one Sunday) contact David Kilgour. Other agencies/ministries we work in with who are making a difference: (if you know of an agency you would like to recommend, contact Nadine.
