I want you to do something for me: think of a time when life felt overwhelming – now think about what it was that really helped you to journey through those challenges..........

If I stood up in front of church with a whiteboard and we wrote down what really helped you all through your hard times, I reckon I could pretty much sum all the help each of us received under one word T I M E.

Few of us haven’t at sometime needed someone’s caring TIME – maybe it was to listen to us, maybe to encourage us, maybe to sit with us while we cried – it was all T I M E people gave to us.

Fresh Perspective mentoring is like another way of saying, “you are important and have value and I choose to spend time with you on your journey (I pinched this little bit from the FP website)

I just got off the phone with a social worker who was asking me if we have a Fresh Perspective mentor who has the time to walk alongside a lovely mum who is grieving the loss of her husband, doing an incredible job of raising her boys on her own but could just do with someone to journey with her down this difficult road she is on. It was wonderful to be able to say yes, I think we have someone (one of our trained mentors) who would be a true gift to this brave mum. As I hung up though it occurred to me - thank goodness we had someone but the reality is, if we are able to provide a mentor for the above lady,my basket of wonderful mentors will be empty and the next time I receive a call on behalf of someone in our area needing mentoring support, I'll have to say no.

This means that Fresh Perspective will have to pass it onto another church out of our area because all of our other mentors are already actively involved in mentoring relationships supporting families in our community. So now I am putting out a MAY-DAY call to any of you who are mums, dads or grand-parents, to consider training as Fresh Perspective mentors.
